Historical Milestone in Medical Education

Madhya Pradesh is set to establish the nation’s first dedicated Hindi-medium Medical College in Jabalpur. This initiative, approved by the Madhya Pradesh Medical University (MPMU), marks a major shift towards linguistic inclusivity in professional higher education.

Key Details of the Session 2027–28

  • Initial Intake: 50 MBBS seats for the first batch.
  • Curriculum: The entire course, including examinations and clinical assessments, will be conducted in Hindi.
  • Textbooks: Utilises the Hindi-translated medical volumes (Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry) released as part of the state’s pilot project started in 2022.
  • Clinical Training: To be conducted at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College & Hospital, Jabalpur.

Future Expansion & Strategic Goals

The project is designed to evolve into a “Medical Institute of Excellence,” with specific phases for growth:

  1. Postgraduate Courses: Future introduction of MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery) in Hindi.
  2. Research & Journals: MPMU plans to publish medical journals in Hindi to support indigenous research.
  3. NEP 2020 Alignment: The college directly supports the National Education Policy goal of providing technical education in regional mother tongues.
