Project Overview
The Central Government has approved a new Akashvani Kendra (All India Radio station) in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The decision was finalised on July 8, 2025, following a strategic meeting between Union Minister Dr L. Murugan and CM Dr Mohan Yadav.
The BIND Scheme Context
The project is funded under the Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) scheme.
- Type: Central Sector Scheme (100% Central funding).
- Outlay: ₹2,539.61 crore (for the 2021–2026 period).
- Goal: To modernise Prasar Bharati (AIR & Doordarshan) and expand coverage to underserved, tribal, and border areas.
Key Objectives & Impact
- Simhastha 2028 Preparation: A critical communication hub for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Ujjain.
- Regional Outreach: This is the 20th AIR station in Madhya Pradesh, aimed at reaching rural and tribal belts.
- Cultural Preservation: Will broadcast programs in the Malvi dialect to promote local folk arts, cuisine, and traditions.
- Interim Plan: Until the Ujjain studio is fully constructed, programs will be broadcast via the Akashvani Indore station.
